I loved working with newspapers. The camaraderie, the flow of ideas, working together as a team, even the tight, looming deadlines. I relished every minute of it. 

Independent newspapers still exist, of course, but all too often they have been bought up by faceless corporations more concerned about the bottom line than real journalism or the reader's experience.
